With more than 60 years of collective demolition, scrap metal recycling, and export experience, Marsden Metals Group recently developed a division that offers efficient general waste management solutions.

From Power Stations, and decommissioning and deconstruction of vessels or large industrial sites, to working with customers to sort out and where possible, recover viable materials from deceased estate clean ups, Marsden Metal’s focus is on repurposing, recycling and re-setting. They help their customers sort out the old and prepare for the new.

"Our type of operation requires significant amounts of heavy and expensive equipment to carry out these tasks for our customers. For years we struggled to obtain working capital to purchase new assets, even though we were a financially successful business owned by a family with a good asset base. Even our overdraft limit was not realistic in terms of the size of our turnover. At times it was less than would be offered to a single person on an average wage. Our biggest problem was that the banks didn't understand the industry we operated in nor the way it earned export revenue for the country.

We were introduced to Steve Hopkins through our family. This introduction proved to be a game changer for Marsden Metals Group. As a result of Steve's support, we have experienced phenomenal growth.

Even though Steve didn’t have any other clients in our industry, he understood our business quickly. He was quick to apply his knowledge and formulate a plan for us. Initially, he approached two banks on our behalf, however Steve found a way to stay with our current bank by restructuring our finance to provide us more flexibility and unlock access to capital for future asset purchases and business growth.

We have worked with Steve for over 6 years now, including through the tough covid years. Steve is very down to earth and we appreciate that he is always accessible. His success in getting the bank to know and understand us came to fruition when the Regional Manager of our bank came to our business for a visit.

• When we purchased an EV car for the business Steve facilitated vehicle finance through ASB with an enviro loan (Green Asset Finance).
• In 2022 / 2023 when it took months if not years to get an order for a new truck off the ground, Steve was there through the long hideous months it took to finally get the truck delivered often having to adjust and re adjust the loan timeframes to keep the finance offer on the table through that timeframe.
• Just recently Steve worked with us as we imported near new pieces of equipment from the other side of the world. We learnt a lot on this journey with Steve’s support and saved the company tens of thousands of dollars in the process.
